The First Lion President of Nepal

The first Lion President of Nepal, Lion Matrika Prasad Koirala was born on 1st January 1912 in Biratnagar, Morang the eastern part of Nepal. He took the opportunity to become the First Lion President of Nepal by establishing the Lions Club of Biratnagar in the year 1971. The extension chairperson of the Lions Club of Biratnagar was Lion P.C. Jain of LC Ajmer, India. Lion Koirala was a well-known social and political figure in Nepal.  Apart from his political background, he had immensely contributed to the social activities of Nepal. There are various instances of his social involvement.   In 1953, he established Nepal Tuberculosis Eradication Association and become founder and Vice-President. He was also a member of the Nepal  Red Cross Society, Biratnagar from the very beginning and subsequently held the position of President. He was the founder and chairman of Morang Higher Education Development Trust. Moreover, he established Koirala Memorial Child Trust. Hence, people always remember him not only as a political leader but also as a profound social activist in Nepal. He had actively contributed to and assisted in constructing the Tribhuwan Memorial Hospital building, Raina Maitri Sadan Red Cross building, Blood Bank building, etc. He was very active in politics and assisted his father Mr. Krishna Prasad Koirala in the First Lion President of Nepal 24 political movement of Nepal. He was the Executive Chairman of the Nepalese National Congress in 1948. He was a successful commander of the 1950 democratic revolution. He was also the Founder and President of Rashtriya Praja Party and established National Janata Parishad in 1991 B.S. Lion Koirala had greatly contributed to the field of literature also. He was a man of high oratory power and recognized as one of the renowned contemporary figures in the Nepali language. He had a good command of English, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Maithali, Rajasthani (Marwari), and Bhojpur languages also.

After the end of the autocratic Rana Regime in 1950, Lion Matrika Prasad Koirala became the first Prime Minister from the General public. He was nominated as a permanent representative of the United Nations Organization and was appointed as Nepal's Ambassador to the United States of America from 1961-to 64. He was an honest, sincere, polite, and kindhearted person.

 

Lion District in Nepal:


In 1976-77
Lion Dr. Anjani Kumar Sharma became the first Nepali District Governor of 322 E and  Multiple Council Chairperson in 1977-78.

In 1982-83
Nepal got its full-fledged district i.e.325. Lion H.P. Giri became the First District Governor of Lions Clubs International District 325, Nepal.

In 1997-98
Lion Pankaj Pradhan became the Multiple Council Chairperson of District 325.

 

2 Lions Districts in Nepal:


In 1997-98
Lions Clubs International Multiple District 325, Nepal was bifurcated into two Districts 325 A and 325 B. The 1st District Governor of 325 A became Lion S. P. Pradhan MJF and Lion Basanta Lal Shrestha for District 325 B.

 

4 Lions Districts in Nepal:


In 2012-13
Lions Clubs International Multiple District 325, Nepal was again bifurcated into four districts 325 A1325 A2325 B1, and 325 B2 and the elected governors were Lion Uttam Raj Kayastha, Lion Biju Bajracharya, Lion Deepak Shrestha, Lion Shem Raj Shakya respectively.

Lions Clubs International Multiple District 325, Nepal was again bifurcated into 15 districts. Following are the districts and elected governors.
